WEST KELOWNA, B.C. – A Boucherie Road mobile home was gutted by fire Halloween night after what neighbours describe as two loud bangs at around 9 p.m.
Darren Oliver told Global News he heard the bangs and went outside to investigate. He immediately saw flames at unit 103’s deck in the Paradise Mobile Home Park at 2035 Boucherie Road.
Oliver said two men jumped into action, breaking a rear window to access the resident, who was said to be sleeping at the time.
The woman was taken from the home as the flames spread through the structure and nearby trees, according to Oliver.
Beverley Denman lives two doors down and had seen the woman and her dog about 70 minutes earlier.
Denman said the large flames were frightening and made her worry for her own home.
The resident of the burned out home also lived with a cat and dog, according to neighbours.
Denman heard late Monday night the dog died in the fire.
RCMP brought the cat to the woman in an awaiting ambulance after fire fighters doused the flames.
Police and fire investigators were looking into the cause of the blaze.
