KELOWNA, B.C. – The Okanagan Sun face the Westshore Rebels Saturday for the B.C. Football Conference championship game, the Cullen Cup.
The Sun admit they’re the underdogs going into the match after the BCFC awarded the Rebels J.C. Boice top coach of the year, Jamel Lyles top offensive back and outstanding offensive player of the year, and Christian Krause top offensive lineman for 2016.
“They’ve got some all-star players, but across the board, we’re a pretty deep team,” Sun head coach Ben Macauley said.
The BCFC awarded the Okanagan’s Layne Hull top linebacker and top defensive player, which Macauley said helps gives them a fighting chance.
“We feel like if we can attack their strength which is their running game, if we can limit them… they’re going to be tough to stop all together. But if we can limit them, stop them from making big plays, we’ve got a defence who’s best in the country, and we’re ready to go out there and prove it,” Macauley said.
Saturday’s game takes place at 4 p.m. in Langford at Westhills Stadium.
The Prairie Football Conference championship game is Sunday afternoon. The Saskatoon Hilltops host the Calgary Colts.
The winners of both Sunday games move on to the Canadian Bowl, Saturday, November 12 at 1:00 p.m. to be hosted by the team that wins the Cullen Cup.
