UPDATE (Nov.17): A judge has granted an injunction for the City of Vancouver to remove a homeless camp at 58 West Hastings Street. The judge is giving campers one week to gather their belongings.
The tent city at 58 West Hastings Street is expected to be dismantled by the City of Vancouver.
The notice served by the city on Oct. 21 says it is increasingly concerned about the conditions within the encampment and for the safety of the people living there.
It cites fire by-law violations, sanitation and other serious health concerns for the closure.
Nearly 100 tents cover the empty lot at the site of the encampment.
The move-out deadline was set for Tuesday at noon. All tents and belongings must be removed as well.
Tent city resident with no place to go are being told shelter spaces will be made available to them.
In August, Vancouver mayor Gregor Robertson paid a visit to the site and announced the city will be turning the site into welfare housing after homeless advocates demanded a meeting with him.
