Kelowna city council had its reservations, but still voted to approve an application for a restaurant on top of a downtown building.
A 500 square foot addition atop the Okanagan Innovation Centre was built without the necessary permits.
Council’s concerns about that were intensified when the developers said they would apply for a liquor license to create a bar or nightclub.
That was never in the original plans for the Innovation Centre, and was especially concerning to residents of an adjacent condominium tower.

The developers have now abandoned the plan for a liquor primary license, with council approving their application for a restaurant.
Mayor Colin Basran said council has warned the developers the restaurant must be a good neighbour.
“Be cognizant of the noise you’re creating and really look at the hours of operation to make sure it’s not disruptive to people who live in the neighbourhood,” Basran said.
The rooftop restaurant will have indoor seating for 37 patrons and an outdoor capacity of about 300 people.
