The bad news for people in Sydney: there was rain this weekend. The good news: it wasn’t that bad, according to many in the area.
“The situation we were anticipating might happen didn’t really materialize to any great extent, so we’re pretty relieved about that,” said Christina Lamey, a spokesperson for the Cape Breton Regional Municipality.
Earlier in the month, the municipal government asked for $1.5 million in immediate assistance from the province and has received $500,000 so far.

“It’s literally for, in some cases, buying new furnaces for people. Whatever is needed to get people to be comfortable in their homes,” said Lamey.
Terry Drohan said the flood that hit nearly two weeks ago reached the eavestroughs of his home.
He said he’s concerned that, among other issues, his home insurance company won’t cover the costs.
“We’re still in a serious situation and we need whatever help government agencies or organizations can help us with,” said Drohan.
