The truck was parked behind a mall on Holiday Avenue, when thieves used a front-end loader to get inside the truck.

No one was injured and police still can’t say how much was stolen.

Police told Global News Saturday that they expect to release more information on the case shortly.

The union representing the Garda security guards released a statement denouncing the incident and also took the opportunity to call on the government to tighten regulations to provide greater safety and protection.

“We want to take this opportunity to once again ask the government of Quebec and the Ministry of Public Security to adopt adequate regulations governing money transportation and the security of the agents transporting it,” declared Jean-Luc Brosseau, Syndicat des agents (SNCF-SCFP 3812), interim union leader.

“Now is the time to act so that the transportation of valuables will finally be safe for everyone, in every situation.”
