A re-titled Facebook post on the page of Saskatoon mayoral candidate Kelley Moore is libelous and defamatory, according to a statement from one of her opponents.
On Friday afternoon, a post on Moore’s Facebook page was titled “It turns out that Mr. Clark and Mr. Atchison have had their hands in the public cookie jar for years.” The post has since been re-titled.
“False accusations such as this are clearly defamatory and libelous and saying them in the context of an election does not protect them,” Saskatoon-based lawyer Grant Scharfstein said in a statement released by Charlie Clark’s campaign.
“She’s throwing out accusations like she’s throwing out numbers,” Clark said in the same statement.
“I remain focused on the campaign and addressing the real issues our citizens are facing.”

The Moore campaign responded to the charge by apologizing “for any suggestion of dishonesty” in a statement released on Twitter.
“Our campaign created a post on Facebook which included a quote from a media release by the Moore4Mayor Campaign on Oct 13th, 2016,” the statement read.
“We acknowledge that it could be taken out of context to imply dishonesty by the incumbent mayoralty candidates. This was not our intention, the post has been edited and Kelley Moore unreservedly apologizes.”
An official from the Atchison campaign said they had no reaction or comment to the Facebook post.
