A funeral was held Thursday afternoon for Ward 9 City Councillor Terry Hincks.
The public was invited to attend the Brandt Centre where Hincks’ brother-in-law, Neil Cromarty, lead the service.
Terry grew up in Regina, married his high school sweetheart and represented Ward 9 for 13 years.
His battle with cancer started in 2013, and ultimately took his life at the age of 64.
Cromarty said he always considered Hincks to be a brother, and has heard from many Regina residents who said they shared a similar relationship with the councillor.
The Hincks’ family said they have received many letters and e-mails from the public sharing their memories of him.
One letter that was read at the service came from a former student and accredited Hincks for being a father figure and helping him to turn his life around — away from drugs and alcohol.
During the eulogy, Cromarty remembered a past conversation he had with Hincks.

“He wanted to say thank you to all of you, for being part of his life. Terry felt so blessed that he had friends and a life here that was better than anywhere else. He loved being in Regina. He loved his friends,” Cromarty said.
Hincks was running as the incumbent for Ward 9. His name remains on the ballot for the civic election on Wednesday, Oct. 26th.
Elections Regina said his name will remain on the ballot because they have already been printed. Votes for Hincks will not count.
