Edmonton police arrest man wanted on several break and enter charges

Edmonton police have arrested a suspect in connection with several break and enters and mail thefts in the city.

On Wednesday, William Geoffrey Schaffrick was arrested in the area of 43 Avenue and 34 Street after police stopped a truck that had a stolen licence plate.

The 44-year-old was wanted on 28 warrants for break and enter, theft of mail, possession of break-and-enter tools and possession of stolen property under $5,000.

Police said someone broke into mailboxes at two southwest Edmonton condo complexes several times between Sept. 9 and 14, 2016. Officers believe the same person may also be responsible for several other mail thefts dating back to 2015.

Schaffrick is now facing additional charges in relation to three parkade break and enters over the past month. Several vehicles and storage lockers were broken into in those incidents and personal documents and a bike were stolen.
