Police say video near the site of a two-vehicle collision in Brampton that killed four people on Thanksgiving shows one of the vehicles involved may have been street racing moments before the crash.
Calisto Mendonca, who was driving a Pontiac Trans Am westbound on Bovaird Drive near Hurontario Street around 8:40 p.m. on Oct. 10, crashed into a Kia Soul carrying 24-year-old Brian McGinnis, his girlfriend 22-year-old Lauren Bouchard and her sister 16-year-old Michelle Bouchard.
Peel Regional Police said Mendonca’s car was travelling at an “extremely high rate of speed” before the crash.

Video obtained by investigators shows a second vehicle was travelling alongside Mendonca’s car at a similar rate of speed. Police believe the two vehicles were racing.
As soon as the drivers encountered traffic, investigators said Mendonca quickly changed lanes, lost control, crossed into opposing traffic and crashed into the Kia Soul.
The impact caused a large fire and the occupants of both vehicles died at the scene.
Police are looking to speak with the driver of the vehicle travelling alongside Mendonca or anyone who witnessed the incidents. Investigators are also looking for anyone who might have video leading up to the crash.
Twenty seven people have died so far this year in collisions on Brampton and Mississauga streets.
