Strong wind gusts prompts special weather statement for Toronto and southern Ontario

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Toronto and much of southern Ontario as a cold front moves into the region Tuesday bringing with it strong gusty winds.

The weather agency said winds gusts of 60 or 70 km/h are likely in most parts of the affected area. Scattered showers and the thunderstorms are also possible in the afternoon ahead of the front.

Environment Canada said stronger wind gusts of 80 km/h are likely during the showers.

However, winds are expected to die down later tonight as the cold front moves through the region.

The special weather statement comes as the City of Toronto is expected to reach a summer-like high of 27 C on Tuesday. The temperature will drop to 10 C this evening.
