The B.C. College of Physicians and Surgeons is going against Health Canada guidelines to allow pharmacists in this province to dispense an abortion pill.
Currently, Health Canada recommends that only doctors dispense abortion pills but the College of Physicians and the College of Pharmacists in B.C. have been working together so women can get a prescription filled at the pharmacy.

Women in B.C. will be the only ones allowed to get the drug this way.
“We think women in B.C. will be able to notice a lot of difference in being able to access this medicine in B.C., compared to the sorts of hurdles women will need to go through in other places,” said Dr. Wendy Norman, women’s health researcher.
Mifegymiso is a combination of two drugs taken on separate days, used to terminate a pregnancy up to 49 days after conception.
