A Colwood man was arrested Saturday night in Langford after a cup of coffee was thrown at an opposing player during a Canadian Junior League Football game.
Mounties said they arrived at Langford’s Westhills Stadium, home of the Westshore Rebels, after security guards escorted a man who allegedly threw coffee in the face of the quarterback of the visiting Vancouver Island Raiders. RCMP said they arrested an “intoxicated” 22-year-old man in connection with the assault.
“This disgraceful act was apparently motivated by a bet with the suspect’s friends,” West Shore RCMP Const. Alex Bérubé said in a statement. “We are taking this matter very seriously and are taking steps to appropriately deal with this isolated incident.”
The suspect has been released on a promise to appear in court on Dec. 29.
