On Sunday, local ranchers discovered one per cent of the herd they’re trying to build had been slaughtered.

A pregnant cow was found butchered at the Fish Trap corrals on Westsyde Road. She was apparently slaughtered for the meat and local rancher Jason Bishop said this is the third cow shot on the range this year.

The news of what happened quickly spread when Asha Bishop posted it on Facebook.

“Somebody had cut her back straps out, shot her in head and took both back legs, loaded them up in some garbage bags, probably on a quad and hauled it off,” Bishop told CFJC News.

“It’s just unthinkable to me. Like I don’t know what kind of a guy would have the gall to do that.”

RCMP is investigating and the owner of the range is offering a $25,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest and conviction.
