Professional bull riders (PBR) took over SaskTel Centre on Friday and Saturday, giving one rider a shot at the world championship.
Ty Pozzobon, of B.C., became the 2016 PBR Canada points leader, earning the champion’s buckle and $25,000 year-end bonus. He currently ranks 33rd in the world standings.

Pozzobon will head to the BlueDef Finals in Las Vegas from Oct. 29 to 31. From there, qualified riders will make their way to the PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals in November for a shot at $1 million.
Although Pozzobon was bucked off both his bulls in Saskatoon, he was the first Canadian on the tour this season to win a buckle at the event in Abbotsford, B.C.
Alberta’s Zane Lambert was the champion at SaskTel Centre this weekend with 169 points on two bulls to earn $5,700. In the past 11 seasons, he has finished in the top 10 in the PBR Canada standings.

Kindersley, Sask., native Dakota Buttar finished second to win $4,000. As of Sunday, Buttar ranks 40th in the PBR’s world standings. American Matt Werries placed third with 166.5 points.
“Cooper’s Comet” was the top marked bull of the event with 45.5 points.
Saskatoon was the sixth and final stop on the 2016 PBR Monster Energy Canada Tour.
