Elderly woman killed in collision north of Edmonton

An elderly woman is dead following a highway collision northeast of Edmonton Wednesday night.

Fort Saskatchewan RCMP were called to the two-vehicle collision on Highway 28A, about five kilometres north of Highway 37, at around 9:55 p.m.

Police said five people were taken to hospital after a Dodge Caravan and a Honda Accord collided. There were four people in the van at the time and one person in the car.

An elderly woman later died of her injuries. Police did not say which vehicle the woman was in at the time of the crash.

RCMP said the investigation is in its early stages and the cause of the crash is not yet known.
