Nova Scotia’s Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) has charged a Cole Harbour RCMP officer in an April 16 traffic collision that injured a passenger.
An RCMP officer was in his patrol car when he responded to a call at about 7:30 p.m. on April 16. His cruiser was struck by another car in the intersection of Cole Harbour Road and Forest Hills Parkway, SiRT says.
There were three people in that car.
The RCMP cruiser then hit another car — a passenger in that vehicle suffered a broken ankle in the collision.
All others involved in the incident were unharmed.
Over the course of the investigation, SiRT did a forensic examination of the collision scene and spoke with 13 witnesses.
As a result of the investigation, RCMP Const. Mitchell Hire, 32, has been charged with failing to stop at a red light and failing to drive with due regard for all persons using the highway under the Motor Vehicle Act.
He is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 22.
