A Montreal cyclist riding home from work Thursday, says he witnessed a disturbing road rage incident on Prince Arthur Street in the McGill Ghetto.
The cyclist captured the incident on a camera mounted on his helmet.
“There was a lot of traffic and honking,” the cyclist told Global News, so “I turned around.”
WATCH ABOVE: A Montreal cyclist riding home from work Thursday, witnessed a shocking incident during rush hour traffic and recorded the event. Two motorists can be seen in a scuffle, with one man alleging he was hit with a hammer. Billy Shields reports.
The video shows two men struggling. One man is sitting in the driver’s seat of a car and the other is reaching into the vehicle.
That’s when the driver can be heard screaming for help. “Stop him, he has a hammer in his hand!”
The scuffle ends, and the man standing pulls away and heads back towards his own vehicle as the driver gets out of his car yelling:
“You pulled out a hammer on me, for real, man?”
He then jumps onto the roof of his alleged attacker’s car, denting it in.
The cyclist filming the confrontation can be heard telling him to be careful, there are children in the car.
That’s when he jumps down from the roof and threatens to call police.
“With your kids, you hit me in the face with a hammer,” he shouted. “I’m going to file a complaint with the police.”
The alleged assailant, who stood by silently after the scuffle, then gets into his car and drives away; the children can be heard crying and screaming in the background.
The driver then runs and retrieves the hammer allegedly used during the incident before driving away himself.
The cyclist told Global News his thoughts on the man who allegedly used the hammer were: “What were you thinking? You get out of your car to attack somebody with your kids in the car. Did you think about the example you were setting?”
Global News also spoke with Dorval attorney Philip Schneider, who said the man who allegedly used the hammer “made a big mistake. That was extremely dangerous. If he had hit this person he would have been certainly arrested,” he said.
“He could have easily killed him.”
Montreal police spokesperson Jean-Pierre Brabant, told Global News that officers were not called to the scene Thursday.
As of Friday afternoon, “no reports had been taken,” he said.
