The alleged assault took place just after 7 p.m. on May 4.

Police say two women, aged 46 and 54, were approached by a man as they left the rear of a business in East Vancouver. Investigators are not releasing any information on where exactly the attack happened.

Investigators have obtained a video showing the man attacking the first woman and then punching the second woman in the head as he ran away.

Both women were injured and taken to hospital.

The video appears to show that the women may have been targeted, but the motive is not yet known.

The women don’t know the attacker, but investigators say the man made a comment as he approached the two women, possibly asking for change.

“Looking at the video, he looks pretty focused on them. He makes an obvious, direct turn toward them,” said Cst. Jason Doucette with Vancouver Police.

Police are asking anyone who believes they might know the man in the video to contact the Vancouver Police.

“We have exhausted all of our investigative resources, but unfortunately we have not been able to find this man, that’s why we need public’s help on this,” said Doucette.

Note: An earlier version of this story reported the assault took place on April 5. The VPD later issued a correction of the date to May 4.
