A man was charged with impaired driving causing death after a pedestrian was killed in an off-highway vehicle collision in Alberta’s foothills region.
The crash happened on the evening of Saturday, Sept. 24 on Crick’s Creek road, outside Edson. Police were called around 7 p.m.; fire and EMS arrived at the scene to find a man dead as a result of a collision.
Police believe he was walking along the road when he was hit. The driver of an off-road vehicle was arrested on scene.
“The consequences for operating off-highway vehicles while impaired are the same as any other motor vehicle,” RCMP Acting Corporal Karen Brideau said, adding police will continue to patrol rural roads to ensure public safety.
Addison Shelton of Yellowhead County was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing death, and impaired operation of a motor vehicle exceeding 80mg% causing death.
He was released and ordered to appear at Edson Provincial Court on Oct. 4, 2016.
Police noted that while there was a poker rally held by the local ATV association that same Saturday, Mounties were at the event and said it had nothing to do with the fatal crash.
The victim’s name was not released by RCMP.
