Homa Hoodfar will return to Montreal on Thursday morning.

The retired Canadian-Iranian professor was released from prison in Iran earlier this week and flown out of the country.
Concordia University said in a statement she’s expected to meet reporters at Montreal’s Pierre Elliott Trudeau Airport.

Until recently, Hoodfar taught anthropology and sociology at Concordia.

Homa Hoodfar detained in Tehran
Since Canada has no diplomatic presence in Iran, the governments of Oman, Italy and Switzerland stepped in to help secure her release.
Hoodfar travelled to Iran in February for both professional and personal reasons.
Her family told Global News in June that she did some research at the country’s parliamentary library, but the trip was focused around visiting with family.
When Hoodfar tried to return to Canada in March, she was detained at the border and her passports and computers were seized and she was interrogated and released on bail.

She was arrested again on June 6 and was imprisoned in Evin prison, which has been linked to acts of torture.
