A shooting suspect in Brandon chose to hide in a church Saturday night.
A 24-year-old Brandon man was arrested and charged with several offences.
Police said they received a call from church staff saying someone had come in and told them they were hiding after a shooting.
At 5:40 p.m. police received a report about an incident on the street between two men, one of whom allegedly had a gun and shots were heard. However, when police arrived no one was there.
Twenty minutes later a man with a gunshot wound was admitted to the hospital. He was awake and described a suspect to officers.
Twenty minutes after that, the call came in from the church. Police said a staff member at a downtown church called saying someone told them he was hiding from police because he shot someone.
Officers arrived and the man was taken in to custody.
The victim did not need surgery, but police say he did have a gunshot wound in his torso.
Police say they recovered a .22 calibre revolver handgun from a dumpster at the 300 block between 9 and 10 street.
Police said the suspect was on recognizance for previous drug charges. The investigation is still in its beginning stages, but police said they anticipate further charges.
