Alberta Wildrose Opposition Leader Danielle Smith posts expenses

EDMONTON – Alberta’s official Opposition leader has posted online all of her expenses – with receipts – dating back to May.

Danielle Smith says the figures include her constituency expenses.

She says the rest of the Wildrose caucus will do the same starting with October’s numbers.

Smith also says the party will post monthly expenses incurred by its caucus office – including costs for hosting, administration, office equipment and travel.

They are to be broken down by category and accompanied by receipts.

Last week, Premier Alison Redford released details of her expenses dating back to 2008 when she became a member of the legislature.

Alberta’s new expense disclosure policy for government officials came into effect Oct. 1.

Smith says her party’s approach is more transparent because it includes constituency office expenses in addition to individual expenses.

“This government shouldn’t be lecturing anybody about how tough their expense policy is, especially when they only came out with it after a series of expense scandals that only further exposed their culture of entitlement,” Smith said in a news release Thursday.
