A 34-year-old man is recovering in hospital after the vehicle he was driving veered off the road and slammed into a lamppost.
According to police, the single-vehicle crash happened at around 3 a.m. ET Saturday on Laurentian Boulevard, at the exit for the Lachapelle Bridge in Montreal’s Ahunstic-Cartierville borough.
Montreal police spokesperson Manuel Couture said alcohol was not a factor in the crash but is investigating witness reports indicating the driver may have been speeding.
“The first testimonies were saying that the man was driving at a high speed when he lost control of his car in a curve to finally hit a lamppost,” Couture said.
The driver involved in the collision was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Collision experts were at the scene for several hours gathering evidence but the Lachapelle Bridge remained open to traffic.
