WINNIPEG — A man is in hospital in critical condition after a serious assault in downtown Winnipeg Friday morning.
Around 1:30 a.m., police were called on scene on Carlton Street between Qu’Appelle and Ellice Avenues. Police said a man was found with upper body injuries and sent to hospital. A woman was also found with minor injuries and taken to hospital.

The area has been taped off since that time and is expected to remain closed until later in the morning.
The Major Crimes Unit is investigating.
