Vancouver firefighters worked quickly Thursday morning to extinguish a fire near a major commuter route.
Flames broke out just after midnight near the Georgia Viaduct at East 1st Avenue and Clark Drive. Heavy smoke was first spotted in the area.

An investigator will be looking for a cause to the potentially suspicious fire, which started in a pile of garbage where Vernon Drive crosses under the Viaduct.
Crews had to cut two locked fences to gain access to the property.
