Granddaughter charged with stealing $12,000 of her Ontario grandmother’s jewelry

BARRIE, Ont. – Police in Barrie, Ont., say they’ve charged an elderly woman’s granddaughter after getting a report that $12,000 in jewelry had been stolen.

They say the grandmother told police that someone broke into her safe and took all of her jewelry on Saturday.

Police say the granddaughter got nervous during the police investigation, and hid the jewelry in a “wooded area.”

Investigators say the granddaughter, whose name and age have not been released, has been charged with theft.
