UPDATE: The Abbotsford Police arrested a 24-year-old man in relation to this incident. Police believe the arrest was the result of the media and public attention it received and the APD thanked our Global News crew, who provided vital information while working in Abbotsford on Sunday.
Abbotsford Police are investigating the attempted abduction of a 16-year-old girl on Saturday.
At 5:15 p.m. the girl was waiting at a bus stop on Old Yale Road near Mitchell Street.
Police say a man in a van drove past the girl several times. Eventually he parked, approached the girl on foot and attempted to try to entice her to get in the van with him with offers of liquor and a ride to work. When the girl refused police say the man grabbed her by the arm and attempted to pull her in the direction of his van.
The girl resisted and thankfully, a man walking by became involved and yelled at the suspect, causing him to flee.
The passerby then sat with the victim until her bus arrived.
The suspect is described as a Caucasian male in his 20s with medium-length brown hair and a mustache. He is 5’5” tall with a medium build and had a teardrop tattoo under his eye. The suspect was wearing a black baseball cap, black shirt, black baggy pants and work boots.
The suspect vehicle is described a dark red or burgundy, early 2000s van, similar to a Ford Winstar or Dodge Caravan.
