Moncton Multiples is doing as its name suggests, growing from a group of six parents in 2009, to boasting over 350 member families today.
The group, whose reach covers much of southern New Brunswick and into PEI, provides support for parents who have twins, triplets or more through info sessions, family events and a variety of other programs.
“We do evenings out just hanging out with the kids or without,” explained Mindy Moore, one of the organization’s founding members. “It’s just been quite good support and great friendships that have developed.”
“There’s no group like it… just a lot of great support for one another and a lot of great friendships gained too,” said Audrey Gaddess.
“We’re here with you if you need help with different twin related issues like how do you breast feed twins how do you sleep train twins,” member Cary Beaumont explained. “All of those strange questions that another mom might not be able to answer.”
Beaumont remembers moving to the area with twin eight-month-old babies and being thrilled to be able to meet other moms with similar experiences.
“The fact that I could find other moms that had gone through similar stuff and could connect me with the right doctors or services I needed,” she said. “Or even just to talk about twin issues…it’s immeasurable.”
To cover their costs twice a year a consignment sale is held.
Originally starting in a church basement with 20 vendors, now it covers much of the Moncton Colliseum, with organizers estimating over one thousand shoppers taking part.
Perhaps keeping with a theme, they plan to double up and expand even further next spring.
