It’s hard to beat perfection.
But so far this season, that’s what tenants of McMahon Stadium have enjoyed: not a single blemish on the home record this season.
The Stampeders, Dinos and Colts are a combined 8-0.
“Undefeated at McMahon? That sounds good. Let’s keep that up,” said Stamps offensive lineman and former Calgary Colt Spencer Wilson.
As they have all year in the Canadian Football League, the Stamps lead the way with five home wins.
“I mean if we had the recipe, I wouldn’t give it to you anyway,” Stamps head coach Dave Dickenson said with a smile.
They may not be willing to share their recipe, but it’s clear the Colts and Dinos have found some of the same ingredients.
“You look at the good teams, you look at the Calgary Stampeders, and physically they go and dominate and their skill shines through,” Colts head coach Matthew “Snoop” Blokker said. “And we’re just taking a page out of their book.”
It’s worked perfectly to this point.
The Colts are the No. 1 ranked team in the country at 4-0, while the Dinos moved up to No. 2 in the country last week after improving to 2-0.
“I’m glad to hear that they’re kind of feeding off our success a little bit and we like to hear when they’re doing well,” Stampeder full-back and Cochrane native Rob Cote Said. “Especially me; I’m always kind of keeping tabs with the Colts guys, seeing how they’re doing.”
“Football in Calgary is important,” echoed Dickenson.
“People love their football and we do support Dinos and Colts,” he continued. “I like their coaches and I want them to do well and I think it’s important that this city rallies around all the teams.”
The Calgary Dinos had over 7,500 fans at McMahon for their home opener last weekend, and delivered a convincing win over the defending National Champion UBC Thunderbirds, to thank them.
Stamps receiver and former Dinos star Anthony Parker still keeps a close eye on his former club. He believes what they’ve been able to accomplish early this season can be a catalyst for the other clubs.
“I definitely think there is that trickle-down effect, a little bit,” Parker said. “Teams are seeing us have success, and the Dinos have had success for a number of years now and the Colts are up and coming. It’ll be exciting to see football this fall.”
Three first-place teams, and high school football is now underway.
It’s a great time to be a football fan in Calgary.
