Kelowna assault victim reluctant to talk

KELOWNA, B.C. – Kelowna RCMP have yet to arrest any suspects following an altercation at a waterfront downtown condo complex Thursday afternoon.

Police descended on Sunset Drive around 4 p.m. when a man sought help for minor injuries at a nearby business.

Cst. Amadeo Vecchio said the victim was taken to hospital, but police returned to the scene of the crime at Discovery Bay Resort to investigate the assault .

“We’re in the process of talking to people, collecting possible evidence related or linked to this occurrence,” Vecchio said. “Our investigation is ongoing. We’re still in the preliminary [stages]. We’re still trying to find out what happened and the order and sequence of events.”

The victim and at least two men involved in the assault fled the scene, according to Vecchio.

Police believe the victim sought assistance at the Lake City Casino because the location was visible and busy.

Cpl. Tania Carroll said the man remains uncooperative with the police investigation, but said, “it’s clear that all parties know each other.”

“A press release may be issued at a later date if any cooperation is received,” Carroll said in an email to Global News Thursday night.
