The city received a traditional German glockenspiel in 1985. It was taken down in 2010 but now the city may be bringing back the bell tower.

Councillor Jerry Flegel brought a motion to executive committee on Wednesday to have administration draft a report for mid December on potential glockenspiel locations.

It used to be stationed in the northeast corner of Victoria Park, but was removed during the construction of city square plaza. The various pieces have sat in storage ever since.

“We just wish that we can bring it back and that people can enjoy it,” German Club director, Andrea MacLeod said.

The German Cultural Club hopes to keep the glockenspiel near Victoria Park, as they traditionally are located in the middle of a city.

The glockenspiel was originally a gift from the Regina Multicultural Council to the city in celebration of the province’s 75th birthday.
