Moncton police investigate overnight shooting on High Street

The Codiac Regional RCMP is investigating an incident of shots being fired on High Street in Moncton early Wednesday morning.

Shortly after 2:00 a.m., RCMP responded to a report that shots had been fired into an apartment on High Street.

A 39-year-old man was inside the apartment when the incident occurred, police say, but he was not hit by a bullet.

He was taken to hospital where he was treated for a minor injury and released.

“It was about 2:05 a.m. when I looked at the clock after I heard, ‘bang bang bang bang,’ very fast, but very loud cause usually I don’t wake up very easy, but this woke me up,” said Cliff Poirier, a nearby resident.

Police closed a section of High Street in order to conduct the investigation. It was reopened mid-afternoon.

Police are asking anyone who may have seen something suspicious in the High Street area or with information about this incident to contact the them at 506-857-2400 or contact www.crimenb.ca.

The investigation continues.
