RCMP lay 27 sexual assault, exploitation-related charges against Hinton man

RCMP in Hinton, Alberta have laid 27 charges against a 58-year-old man from Hinton. The charges include several counts of Sexual Assault, Sexual Exploitation, and Sexual Interference, and are connected to a child victim. The accused is not related to the victim.

RCMP say the victim is a 12-year-old girl who was 12-years-old at the time of the alleged abuse. Since the investigation is still taking place, the exact timeline of the alleged abuse is not clear.

RCMP arrested the man on September 16. The investigation is ongoing and even more charges are pending.

Sexual Interference refers to touching – with an object or part of the body – the body of someone under 16-years-old for a sexual purpose. Sexual exploitation applies when the accused is in a position of trust or authority.

RCMP say there is a publication ban in effect, which means the male’s name will not be released to the public in order to protect the identity of the child victim.
