RCMP searching for owners of old military medals found in Agassiz

Police are looking for the owner of these old war medals. RCMP handout

Mounties are hoping the public can help find the owner of some military service medals found near Agassiz-Rosedale Bridge on July 28.

An area resident turned in the medals, which were found in a small box, to police. And while police found out the identities of the medal’s recipients, RCMP investigators have not been able to determine who currently owns them.

“The medals reach back to a time when the Dominion of Canada was forging an identity as a Nation within the British Empire,” Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment spokesperson Cpl. Mike Rail said in a release.

“We feel the medals could be valuable family heirlooms and are reaching out to the public to assist us in returning them to those families.”

Anyone with information about the medals is asked to contact the Agassiz RCMP at 604-796-2211.
