Earlier this month, Ballard signed a deal to supply Inala Technologies, its new African distributor, with up to 192 methanol fuelled power systems.

The shipments follow Ballard’s acquisition of some assets belonging to IdaTech, a long-time customer of the fuel-cell maker.

Methanol is plentiful around the world, so cells that run on that fuel are a good way to provide backup power in remote locations, Ballard said.

Ballard shares closed down nearly seven per cent to 70 cents on the Toronto Stock Exchange Wednesday.
