For the second time in August, a missing BASE jumper was found dead in Alberta’s Kananaskis Country.
“Rescue crews responded to a call for a missing wing-suit jumper on Grotto Mountain Sunday evening,” Kananaskis Country Public Safety officials said in a Facebook post on Monday. “Unfortunately the subject was recovered deceased.”
“Thoughts and condolences to his family and friends.”
Canmore RCMP are investigating, though they said Monday it’s not considered to be a suspicious incident. Officers said they learned a 38-year-old man was dead “after an unsuccessful BASE jump” at 4:45 p.m. Sunday.
Police are not releasing the man’s name, citing the federal Privacy Act.

Grotto Mountain is a popular hiking spot in the Bow River valley near Canmore, Alta.
Well-known BASE jumper Cameron Minni, 34, was found dead Aug. 8 after a BASE jump near Ha Ling Peak.

BASE jumping is when a person jumps from a fixed structure or cliff using a parachute or wing suit. It’s considered more dangerous than skydiving due to the relatively low altitude of the jumps.
