Life has thrown many challenges at Meihua Huang and she’s faced each one head-on.
Huang lost her legs after she was trapped in rubble following the 2008 earthquake in Sichuan, China.
Back in April, a flight school in Pitt Meadows offered her lessons to fulfill her dream of learning to fly.
During her time in Canada, Huang watched news coverage of the wildfire that tore through Fort McMurray, Alberta.
“It just reminds me of the days I was in the earthquake,” she said.
She returned to China with a plan — enlist 10,000 students at five different schools to raise funds for those affected by the Fort McMurray wildfire. So far, she has helped raise $14,000.
But that’s just another day for Huang whose love of life is coupled with the desire to teach others the importance of giving back.
“The purpose is mainly to teach the kids to be grateful and to do things for others and the second one is to make the victims feel warmth,” she said.
