WINNIPEG – A local artist is starting a series of colourful murals designed to revitalize neighbourhoods in Transcona.

Cash Akoza started the project on Saturday at a business on Regent Ave. West.

“I just feel the need to spread colour and healing through neighbourhoods and it gives a sense of community and I just want to replenish these communities with these colours and images,” he said.

Although he has no formal training, Akoza has created other murals in the city, including one in the West End earlier this month.

“It’s just basically a process of me feeling out the area and what it needs and the vision just comes through me from there,” he said.

He’ll be using spray paint for his latest project, which he says allows him to complete the work faster and produce more vibrant, arresting colours.

The mural is being painted on a building located at 110 Regent Ave. West.
