Bear Creek fire evacuation order lifted

The Evacuation Order and Alert for the Bear Creek fire are now rescinded.

Residents can return to the approximately 105 properties in the Traders Cove subdivision that were affected.

The regional district is warning that active fire suppression continues in the area of Westside Road and smoke and flames may be seen over the next few days.

People returning home are encouraged to look for trees damaged by wildfire that may pose as hazards.

The public is still being asked to stay out of fire-affected areas and obey warning signs.

This includes not entering any local hiking trails including Bear Creek Provincial Park.

Power has been restored to the area, but because there was no electricity for an extended period of time, food in freezers and fridges may no longer be safe to eat.

The Emergency Support Services reception centre is now closed.

DriveBC is reporting that Westside Road is now open, but drivers can expect some delays.

Bear Creek Main Forest Service road is closed to all but local traffic.

Campers can find information about the status of Bear Creek Provincial Park at the BC Parks website.
