3 charged after rifle, $30K in drugs and cash seized from Ontario seniors’ complex

Three people face charges after police seized a rifle, ammunition and more than $30,000 worth of drugs and cash hidden in the walls of a seniors’ residence in Uxbridge, Ont.

Durham Regional Police launched an investigation into drug activity at the building on Perry Street, after receiving numerous tips from the public.

Officers executed a search warrant on one of the units on Thursday and found 10 marijuana plants, hashish, cocaine, opiates and illegal cigarettes valued at more than $15,000.

Investigators also seized $15,000 worth of cash, some of which police said was found hidden in the walls of the residence, in addition to a rifle with ammunition.

William Theakston, 67, and Kevin Stoner, 50, both of Uxbridge, face the following charges:

  • Production of a controlled substance (cannabis)
  • Two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking
  • Two counts of possession of a controlled substance (cannabis resin and oxycodone)
  • Careless storage of a firearm
  • Careless storage of ammunition
  • Possessing a firearm other than restricted without holding a licence
  • Possession of the proceeds of crime over $5,000
  • Possession of unmarked cigarettes for the purpose of sale
  • Possession of unmarked cigarettes

Miranda Lehtinen, 33, of Uxbridge, has also been charged with possession of a controlled substance (oxycodone).
