Calm winds and cooler temperatures on Wednesday night helped fire crews working on the 2.8-hectare Cinnabar Creek wildfire off Westside Road.
Evacuation alerts have now been lifted for Lake Okanagan Resort and two children camps, Camp Owaissi and Camp Mewata.
Approximately 20 BC Wildfire Service firefighters, along with structural fire fighters from the Wilson’s Landing, North Westside and West Kelowna departments have been conducting patrols throughout the fire zone. No problems were reported.
The fire is currently burning 16 kilometers north of Kelowna. It broke out mid-afternoon on Wednesday.
The fire is categorized as rank two with some pockets ranked as three.
Nine aircraft, four air tankers, three skimmers and two birddogs are still at the scene.
The scheduled 6:30 a.m. opening of Westside Road has been delayed and it is now anticipated that Westside Road will open at approximately 8:30 a.m. to single-lane alternating traffic through the fire zone just north of Lake Okanagan Resort and south of Denison Road.
