Residents of North Vancouver are being warned after a cougar was spotted recently in a popular area for hikers and mountain bike riders.
Several warning signs have now been set up in the area around the Seymour Demonstration Forest.
Conservation officers are reminding the public to be careful, especially in this stretch of warm weather.
They say the heat can cause cougars to become more aggressive.
“We do get times where they’ve been in conflict, that people have been known to be attacked, and especially on those long, hot dry periods, so if you’re getting out there in the outdoors enjoying the hot weather, be aware that there’s wildlife,” said Sgt. Todd Hunter with the B.C. Conservation Service.
“They’re out there, they’re stressed and they’re going to be looking for food.”
