Which Canadian city would you rank as the safest?

A new poll by Mainstreet/Postmedia shows Canadians have an optimistic view of crime rates in Saskatchewan’s two main cities.

Despite Saskatoon and Regina having the highest crime rates according to Statistics Canada, the poll shows Canadians believe the two cities to be safer than Toronto, Montreal, and Winnipeg.

The poll asked more than 4,000 people to rank 15 of Canada’s major cities in order from safest to least safe. Regina placed as the sixth most safe, Saskatoon eleventh.

Mainstreet Research president Quito Maggi believes this has to do with the media attention Premier Brad Wall gets outside of Saskatchewan.

“He’s standing up for pipelines, energy sector, other issues that are important to Saskatchewan so that’s the type of news stories that comes out of Regina,” he said.
