Dog-walking tree thief arrested

Calgary police have confirmed they arrested a man in connection with the theft of two trees from outside Royale Brasserie.

Police told Global News the man was arrested based on tips they got from the public.

This story spread quickly through social media Tuesday after security footage captured what appears to be a man grabbing two Japanese Maples from outside of the restaurant on 17th Avenue while walking his dog.

WATCH BELOW: A video posted to Instagram shows a tree thief in front of the Royale Brasserie in Calgary.

Police also said the suspect is known to them, and charges are pending related and unrelated to this incident.

The operations manager for Teatro Restaurant Group, Karen Kho, said the trees are worth $700 apiece. Both trees were recovered, however Kho told Global News, “the trees aren’t in the same form, but they are back. We didn’t expect to see them come back.”
