Woman dies after alleged assault outside Vancouver nightclub; city’s 5th homicide

UPDATE: A young woman who was allegedly assaulted out front of Caprice Nightclub early Thursday morning has died of her injuries. Two female suspects were arrested after the incident. The pair have been interviewed by police and released from custody pending further investigation and results of an autopsy. This is Vancouver’s fifth homicide in 2016.

A 28-year-old woman is in hospital with critical injuries and two women have been arrested following an alleged assault in Vancouver’s club district on Thursday morning.

Police said the assault happened after a brief altercation between the victim and two women inside the Caprice Nightclub on Granville Street at about 2 a.m. this morning. Staff at the club managed to stop the physical attack on the victim.

The two suspects then fled the area on foot and the victim was taken to hospital with critical injuries.

Police arrested the two women about 30 minutes after the incident while they were getting out of a cab.

The victim remains in hospital in grave condition.

Police are continuing to investigate and are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact the VPD Major Crime Section or Crime Stoppers.
