Anne Hathaway, Sandra Bullock join all-female cast of ‘Ocean’s Eleven’

Anne Hathaway and Sandra Bullock will be part of the all-female cast of an Ocean’s Eleven spin-off, 15 years after George Clooney, Brad Pitt and company grossed a collective $1.12 billion worldwide for the original trilogy.

Hathaway and Bullock join a cast that already includes Helena Bonham Carter, Mindy Kaling, RihannaCate Blanchett and rapper Awkwafina, according to Deadline.

The film will be known as Ocean’s Eight which means there is still one more lead actor to cast.

It will be directed by Gary Ross, who is known for The Hunger Games and Free State of Jones, and will be produced by Ocean’s Eleven director Steven Soderbergh.

“I think it’s a pretty similar tone,” Ross told Slashfilm in June. “This is very much an extension and a continuation… I’m in no way trying to reinvent the tone, and I’m thrilled and honoured to be extending it. It’s really fun to work with.”

In Ocean’s Eleven the plot revolved around the cast stealing about $150 million from casinos. The plot for the franchise spin-off has not yet been revealed.

“It’s a really good script,” Bonham Carter told Entertainment Weekly in June. “But it’s a great script, and it’s great for women. Just hilarious.”

The news of the Ocean’s Eleven all female spin-off comes after reports that the all-female Ghostbusters reboot will lose $70m.

Filming will begin in October in New York City and a release date for the film has yet to be announced.
