Halifax Fire is advising residents not to be alarmed by the smell smoke in the air Wednesday.
Though the Seven Mile Lake wildfire is a couple of hours from the city, smoke from the blaze is being blown across the province, even making it all the way to Halifax and the surrounding area.

Halifax Fire has received several 911 calls from residents reporting smelling smoke in the air, and tweeted Wednesday that “Smoke you’re smelling and haze you’re seeing is likely from the wildland fires.”
Officials are asking residents to use discretion with calling 911, and only to call if they believe the smoke is from a separate fire.
The Department of Natural Resources advised in a noon update Wednesday that smoke was blowing across the province and residents should use caution, especially elderly people, children and those with respiratory issues or allergies.
