All eyes were on newcomer Shea Weber as celebrities and athletes gathered at Le Mirage in Terrebonne for Montreal Canadiens head coach, Michel Therrien‘s annual golf tournament.
“I’m excited to be back in Canada, let alone the mecca of hockey – the place where people eat, sleep and breathe hockey,” Weber said.
“It’s going to be something new, but I’m definitely looking forward to it.”
Tuesday’s event was the first time Weber has appeared with the team since the Habs acquired him in exchange for star defender P.K. Subban.

“I understand that P.K. is a very popular player here and I understand the fans are very passionate,” said Weber.
“So, hopefully I can come here and help this team win and that’s the bottom line – winning games.”
Canadiens coaches and teammates said they were happy to welcome the former Nashville Predators captain on board.

“Every game is a big game. Like I told Shea, you play on a Tuesday night, whatever team you play, it’s a big game,” said Therrien.
“Whether you play on the road or at home, you gotta make sure you’re ready and give your 100 per cent. That’s why it’s fun to play or to coach with the Montreal Canadiens.”
Weber will replace Subban as an alternate captain.
“I’m really excited to be playing with such a great player,” said Habs captain Max Pacioretty.
“I’ve gotten to know Shea over the last couple days now. I’m really excited to lace them up and get on the ice with him.”
It’s the tournament’s fourth year, welcoming 41 celebrities and 22 members of the Montreal Canadiens organization.
All of the proceeds of the event will go to the Montreal Canadiens Children’s Foundation, a cause close to the coach’s heart.
