The eldest child of King Olav and Crown Princess Martha, Ragnhild could not ascend to the Norwegian throne because the Scandinavian country’s Constitution only allowed male succession.

In 1953, Ragnhild married a commoner, Norwegian businessman Erling Sven Lorentzen, and the couple settled in Brazil.

The royal household says a funeral service will be held at the palace but the date and time have not yet been determined.
